Our CalCERTS certified HERS (Home Energy Rating System) raters can come to your new home, remodeled home, or commercial space and test the efficiency of the HVAC (Air conditioning and Heating) unit using the following HERS tests:
Duct Test
The Duct test measures the leakage of the ducts in your HVAC system, which is a major component of the efficiency of the system. California has very strict regulations on duct leakage, and our seasoned technicians will be able to test and identify whether or not your system is within code. If your system has too much leakage, we can pinpoint the problem area and advise how to fix it (usually using a smoke test). Unlike other companies, we do not charge for retesting! We are here to help you pass your final inspection.
Air Flow Test
An Airflow test is required to make sure that the HVAC system is blowing enough CFM (cubic feet per minute) for the capacity of the unit. Without sufficient CFM, the heating/AC will not heat/cool your home or business as needed.
Refrigerant Test
The Refrigerant test includes measuring the pressure, temperature and levels of the refrigerant. By testing the refrigerant, we can verify that the system is properly loaded with the appropriate charge, resulting in a well-running HVAC unit.
Fan Efficiency Test
The fan Efficiency test ensures that the air handler within the HVAC system is working at the proper wattage.
Blower Door Test
The Blower door test, or building envelope test, is where we seal off the entire house and measure the air infiltration rates and locate air flow paths within the home.
Quality Insulation Installation Inspection (QII) QII is required on new homes that are installing high quality, efficient insulation (as indicated on your Title 24 report). Our inspectors come to inspect at framing and installation phases of construction to make sure the insulation is installed completely compliant with California Energy Efficiency code.
Not all the above tests are required for every project, but our staff is proficient in assessing a project and knowing exactly which tests need to be done and what paperwork is needed.
After you have passed all these test and received your paperwork from us (CF2R and CF3R forms), you can schedule your final inspection and close your permit. You can also be assured that your system is running efficiently with minimal to no leakage.
We also have energy consultants on staff to provide Title 24 reports for New Construction and remodel projects. We make the process simple and smooth, requiring just the plans and sending you the report within a matter of days. Title 24 reports are required to pull a permit on any new construction residential projects in California, and our reports are accepted state-wide!
In addition to HERS testing and Title 24 reports, we also provide Air Balancing services. Often, especially for remodeled or new commercial spaces, the building department will require Air Balancing to be done and a report to be provided upon final inspection. We work with your schedule and make sure to get the service and paperwork at your site without delays. Similarly, the Health Department sometimes requires restaurants to have an Exhaust Hood Air Balance service done in the kitchen. Our professional technicians can come test and balance and provide all the necessary paperwork for the final inspection.
